Days 11-13 Woodford to Roma

So we left the wedding and headed into Woodford for a coffee and some quick planning. Drove to Walla and found the roads narrow and very bumpy. Because we left late we couldn’t make Chinchilla as planned. Pulled up at Walla in the dark and found a free overnight stop one road back from the main road which had public toilets. Two other vans were already parked there. Because the cattle trucks tend to run through the night we could hear them but you soon get used to them and sleep through it all.Luckily they were one block away. Woke up in the morning to find that a local had a coffee and brekkie caravan running on the corner. Unfortunately we had already had our brekkie so we supported them with a couple of take away coffees and hit the road.

Drove to Chinchilla and had a quick stop to take a photo of the watermelon and off we went. Made it to Roma and decided to spend two nights at a farm stay called Ups and Downs. Quite a quirky place. Can only assume it is called ups and Downs because of it’s proximity to the airport. ET suggested a skydive but I am afraid those days are over as we would have to do a full day refresher course and still borrow gear. Roma is small town with most things available, however it also houses the biggest cattle sales yards in the Southern Hemisphere. So of course we went to the cattle sales and did a tour. It was very interesting. We did most of the tourist things in town except for the big rig tour. There are hundreds of Bottle Trees in the town which just for the record are not related to Boabs. This area is also a gas producing area, hence the Big Rig. Found the tour of the Presbyterian church very interesting as it is known for it’s old stain glass windows from the 1800’s as well as it’s lead light windows. I also found an Akubra hat that I liked in Golders, a local shop, but decided I might order its online from Akubra. As we were driving I contacted Akubra only to find out that that model hat was only made for that store. The hat model was,( Queenslander and proud of it). Each hat, if I understood this correctly, has a different Roo leather band.Oh well, still plenty to choose from.
