Packed up the van, said our goodbyes to Gabby and Peter before moving it to a storage area behind the homestead. Filled the car and headed North on the road to Mitchell Falls National Park. The first river crossing was wide and deep and was in fact the Drysdale River. It is used for the swimming hole at Drysdale station. The road going north had sections of smooth road but every few km’s it turned to horrible corrugations. Apparently it had only been graded 3 weeks earlier. The river crossings and the surroundings helped make it interesting enough to continue. Of course the prize at the end of the day is Mitchell Falls. On the way there was an aboriginal art site that we visited. Boy it was stinking hot and I felt listless. We eventually arrived around 3pm after first stopping for lunch at King Edward River camp ground.
We set up our tent on the side of the car and then walked to the little shed that is the office for the helicopter company and changed our return flights to a day earlier as we are one day ahead of schedule. We settled in at our camp site and drank cold beer. What a treat. That night we were in bed fairly early as the mozzies were very active. We also planned an early start.
