Left Undara and headed off to Ravenshoe which is in the Atherton Tablelands. We have slowly been gaining altitude for the past two legs of the journey and we were now in the area that housed Queensland’s highest pub. We booked a camping spot at the golf course about 10km out of town and set up camp for three days. Headed into town for a walk around. It was Sunday afternoon and the pub was doing Sunday roast. So what did we do, we had Sunday afternoon lunch with table service, white table cloths and all. A real treat.
To walk it off we did the walk to Millstream Falls. The entire Atherton Tablelands is a large area with so many waterfalls it’s unbelievable. It reaches a height of 1600m above sea level and is therefore much cooler and less humid than places like Cairns which is just down the hill really. They grow the most diverse range of crops including avocados, bananas, cashews, citrus, coffee, custard apples, herbs, grapes, legume seed, lettuce, lychees, macadamia, maize, mangoes, vegetables, beams, potatoes, passionfruit, papaya, peaches, peanuts, pineapples, pumpkins, sorghum, sugar cane, sweet potatoes, tea tree, tomatoes, watermelons…. ++
We have been here before and visited many of the towns and many of the waterfalls. This area is always worth exploring. Oh and the scones……….
