Short drive to Mission Beach where we have been once before. We had booked a beach side spot in the council van park under some huge trees. Then we realised that we had an unpowered site. Because we are under the trees, we can’t use the solar to power up the van. So like our neighbours we had to connect our car for about 40 minutes each day and charge the battery. We also have a solar blanket which we used to catch a little bit of sun throughout the day. Anyhow it was all manageable. We spent three nights here just chilling. Riding our bikes on the beach, walking visiting the little cafes and shops. It’s a great spot with thousands of Coconut Palms all along the beach and streets. They remove all the coconuts in the public walking areas to ensure nobody gets killed when they fall. Some of those coconuts are the size of two rugby balls put together and very heavy. Of course all the beaches in these tropical areas are covered in coconuts, well you actually find them all along the high tide mark.
We also rode our bikes along the coast to Bingil Bay, which is the next little suburb. It has the most amazing little quirky cafe which we simply had to go back to. The weather could have been a little kinder as we had quite a bit of overcast skies.
We met some lovely travellers there. We met Paul and Liz, our immediate neighbours and had drinkies and snacks with them. They are slowly making their way back home to Victoria. We also had drinks with Martin and Kim who are travelling around in a Global Explorer truck. We met them in a coffee shop early one morning after a walk on the beach. Of course drinkies and snacks with them was also thoroughly enjoyed.
