Cairns is surrounded by the most beautiful green mountains which have stunning waterfalls heading all the way up to the Atherton Tablelands. We came into Cairns to pick up a few bits that we needed and ended up staying for three nights. We had the ever present Curlews staring at us with their perceived evil eyes. They tend to take up a position and pretend to own the area, hissing or growling at you if you come near. They also tend to whale at night. Find these weird birds all over the tropics and they can be quite tall and imposing when standing up straight.
We did the necessary shopping, went out and shared a pizza, went to movies and enjoyed the light show put on as part of the Cairns Festival. We also went to a great roof top bar to watch the sunset. So now that we have had a little time in a big town it is time to head off once more in search of more beautiful scenery and sunrises.
