Well we had a few options for the night and were hoping for a free or low cost stay. We drove to Burdekin area and on to AYR where we had a walk around town, had some lunch and a coffee and decided to try the area out at the coast called Alva Beach. It has a large tidal lagoon area behind the first row of sand dunes which is great for windsurfing and paddle boarding but as there wasn’t much else there we decided we would not stay and continued further south. We got as far as Gumlu Tavern and decided to stay there,. It cost us $10 for the night with the usual caveat of a drink or dinner at the Tavern. Well we ended up doing both.
The sand fly bites have now reached a new level and all I want to do is remove my skin. Managed to get more antihistamines in AYR as well as some cortisone cream and with a bit of luck it will go away…….f.f.f.flipping terrible at night..
