Due at the first winery at 10.30am. We arrived at Eldertons family winery to be greeted by one of the owners, Cameron. Cam showed us a fabulous time by showing us around the working winery while other members of the family were hard at work. He then showed us around his family home which is now converted into tasting rooms and displays after which he personally ran us through the history of the family, the wines and combined that with the most awesome wine tasting. What a fabulous experience all arranged by our friend Michael Every.
Next stop was Maggie Beer’s farm shop for a look around. We did consider lunch but it was a little bit over priced so we headed back to town for a light bite before heading to the next winery, also arranged by Mike..
On to Torbreck where we met up with Nigel the Viticulturist who has previously worked with Mike. Another fantastic bloke who was very passionate about his work and the creations of the wine makers. After tasting around 14 wines, some of which were extremely expensive but really good, we were treated to a tour of the winery. What a wealth of knowledge and experience he has and the opportunities for experimenting with vines are so interesting.
A big shout out to everyone that has taken their personal time and looked after us.
We also met a young South African wine maker. She was working in the lab and on the floor on a temporary basis and is hoping to move out to South Australia full time.
Needless to say we headed back to camp and had to rest for the remainder of the day.
