Tanunda to Hahndorf

We packed up and managed to leave camp quite early for a change. On our way to Hahndorf we detoured to Seppeltsfield Winery but as it was only 9am everything was closed. We knew it would be but we wanted to see it as it is quite historic as well. Over the last 100 years they must have planted thousands of date palms as they line the roads for miles on the approach.

We eventually got back on the highway and headed south towards Hahndorf skirting Adelaide once more. The highway was a bit of a surprise, or I should say it took me by surprise. It was as bad as the Bruce Highway and so bouncy that I had to back right off to around 90kph. Any taste was like riding a horse. Our approach was via Mount Barkley as we had to get our gas stove checked under a recall. The drive after that was directly through Hahndorf Narrow street. Of course some old idiot simply flung his door open in front of us and I had to brake hard to avoid hitting it with the van. With vehicles coming the other way there is absolutely no wiggle room. After setting up we spent the afternoon walking around town, collecting all our goodies we had sent to the local post office including 150 coffee pods.

While Elaine was visiting the shops, I decided to go and have a nice German beer at the German Arms. Elaine arrived after a while and went inside to buy a beer and bumped into Chris and Ange who we had met at Rapid Bay. Needless to say we had a good catch up and continued that catch up after dinner in the camp kitchen as there was a major storm raging outside. Had to take the awning down and pack things away before going to bed as it would have kept us awake all night.

It is always fantastic to make travelling friends especially if you are travelling in the same direction and are bound to bump into each other further down the road. What a lovely couple.

Across the road from the caravan Park there was a fruit and Veg store that was more like a Deli. They had some fabulous things but all we bought was the best Cauliflower we had seen in a while. Well that’s what we had for dinner one night with white sauce and grilled cheese… Yum
