The temps are already really comfortable before we head off for our walk up Mount Trio. We are both carrying two bottles of water and snacks as well as a jumper and snake bite bandage. We drove to the base and then took a look at the track with trepidation. By now it is already about 25 deg but the breeze comes through every now and then cooling it a little. The track went straight up from the start and the steps were tall. We had to rely on our walking poles to negotiate them safely. The sides of the track are adorned with a variety of colours of wild flowers. It certainly distracted us from the strain of climbing up this mountain. As we were making our way through the hundreds of Black Boy trees found in the saddle of the mountain, the wind was gusting really strong and we had to hang on to our hats. By now we were dripping wet with sweat and the wind cooled us down.
Reaching the peak didn’t come to soon as we were both really tired. Fitness is really bad at the moment and carrying the extra weight doesn’t help. It took us 81 minutes to reach the top and the way our legs were feeling going down was going to be really tough. Wobbly legs were with us all the way down.
Safely back at camp we had lunch, showered and retired to the air conditioning inside our van. We slept the afternoon away. It was over 35deg outside.
In the evening before dinner we joined some people at the communal fire and had a few drinks and chats before heading back for dinner and to watch some Netflix shows.
