York Peninsula-2

Remember to select the heading above.

Today we leave Ardrossan and head to Point Turton. Unfortunately we can only check in tomorrow so we decided to stay at a free camp in Warooka. After setting up we took a drive to York Town which doesn’t really have very much at all. It does however have a bakery, a sports shop that sells everything including clothing, a couple of pubs and a small supermarket. Well just like all other small towns it is covered for essentials. We then did a loop drive to look at a few of the pink salt lakes which litter the whole of the York Peninsula. The wind was blowing so hard we felt like we were back in Cape Town. We also visited all the water tower art while we were travelling around. After a bit of driving we decided to call it a day. We retired to our van away from the wind to watch movies on one of the streaming services utilising our Starlink. Nothing like making mad Musk richer. It does however give us incredibly fast internet. As always ET produced an amazing dinner from very little. The next day we managed to book into Point Turton and got a great spot under a tree a stones throw away from the jetty. We were surrounded by other caravans but that is simply what you have to do from time to time. We had power and water and yes we could run the aircon, yay because if is very ffff hot. After lunch we went for a walk down on to the jetty to check the fishermens catches. There was also talk of some very big resident Sting Rays. No fish, no rays so we collected our swimmers and went for a walk to Magazine Beach which also had a small cave. They used to store explosives in the cave in the 1800’s as the area was used as a quarry. The Jetty was built to accommodate the removal of the stone and the now caravan park is built into this quarry which is long gone. After checking out the cave we had a swim and relaxed on the beach. Luckily it was mostly sheltered from the wind. Read our books for a while. Back to camp for more relaxation and to do a few chores etc. Damn I lost my apple tag from my car keys. Will have to pop back to see if we can find it on the beach. Amongst all those stones I doubt we will find anything.

The next day we drove to the most amazing beach called Flaherty Beach. The wind had dropped and it was the most beautiful day. There were already a number of cars on the beach but because it is so long we still found a very private spot. The sand is white and because it is very shallow it looks magnificent. Took a couple of drone shots and heaps of others.Had a great day on the beach, which is what we are always on the hunt for. Nothing quite like sitting on the beach, listening to the waves and reading a book.

Back at camp, in the late afternoon, we walked down to the jetty with our glass of wine and watched as the big Stingrays glided up and down in front of one of the stair cases going into the water. See video. A lot of divers enjoy the interaction with the rays.
